The Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (CDJMC) at Tribhuvan University and the Center for Media Research – Nepal (CMR-Nepal) invite communication researchers, academicians and students to submit abstracts for the Kathmandu Conference on Combating Misinformation to be organized in Kathmandu, Nepal on January 24 and 25, 2026.
The conference aims to promote South Asian and Nepalese scholars’ works in communication, media and journalism by providing a regional platform.
We are accepting submission for oral and poster presentations at the conference relevant to South Asia that falls within the spectrum of conference title.
Abstracts will be reviewed by a scientific committee on ongoing basis and acceptance will be based on topic, concept, clarity, innovation, argument and methodology. Authors of the accepted abstracts will be asked to make a presentation to be delivered at the conference and the full paper will be published in the conference proceedings with a DOI (if researchers wish so).
About the organizers
The Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (CDJMC) at Tribhuvan University serves as the hub for nearly 100 constituent and private colleges affiliated with the University. Journalism education began in 1976 at the higher secondary (plus two) level at RR Campus, Kathmandu, and culminated in the establishment of the Central Department at the dawn of the new millennium. Now housed in the iconic Camera Building on the University Campus in Kirtipur, the department offers graduate, MPhil, and PhD programs in journalism and mass communication.
The Center for Media Research – Nepal (CMR Nepal) is a research and policy think tank focusing on media and journalism. CMR-Nepal conducts policy research, journalism training, discourses on contemporary issues, and has programs to combat misinformation by spreading media and information literacy to combat misinformation and fact-checking.
Abstract Submission Requirements
- All abstracts should clearly state introduction, research questions and/or objectives, methodology, findings and conclusions in brief.
- All abstracts must be submitted via online form here in English or Nepali language.
- All submissions will be checked through AI and plagiarism checker, and if found to be AI generated or plagiarized, the author will be disqualified for participation.
- There are no fees for submitting abstract and publishing full article in the conference proceedings.
- The author is solely responsible for ethical issues.
- APA guidelines should be used for writing, citation and referencing.
- The Scientific Committee will make a decision on the submitted abstracts and its decision will be final.

Participation Registration Fee: NRs. 5,000/-
Student Participants Registration: NRs. 2,500/-
All presenters must register.
We have a limited number of registration fee waiver and fellowships available (see below).
Announcement of financial assistance will be made by January 15, 2026.
Registration Waiver and Fellowships
We will waive registration fee for a limited number of needy presenters and participating students on first-come-first-serve basis.
To encourage paper presentations from outside the Kathmandu Valley, we have up to 6 fellowships for oral paper presenters. The fellowship covers travel, modest accommodation and registration fee.
